Today we’ll watch a special story about another real kid just like you! We want to tell you upfront that it’s a story with some sadness in it. But it’s also a story of incredible hope. First let’s review what we’re discovering today about Jesus’ power. Jesus’ Power Lets Us Live Forever. (Trust Jesus!)
Romans 8:11 The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you! That’s incredible news! That means you can live knowing that when you believe in Jesus, obey his commandments, and stay plugged into the power source of His grace, you can live with Him forever in Heaven. Forever!
Today you’ll meet a boy named Isaac, who had a sad thing happen in his family. Isaac’s brother, Joel, died from a disease called cancer. That doesn’t happen very often, especially to kids – it’s not something you need to be afraid of or worry about.
Joel was a friend of Jesus. Isaac and his family miss Joel, but they also have great hope that they will see him again in the most wonderful, beautiful place of all – Heaven – where they can enjoy perfect love and friendship with Joel and Jesus forever!
It’s normal to feel a little sad after watching a video about a boy who died. But there’s also a lot oh hope in this story. Joel loved Jesus, and Jesus has promised that those who die in His friendship will live forever with Him in Heaven! Joel’s not sick anymore, and he doesn’t have to deal with treatments for his cancer. Jesus wants Joel and all of us to be in Heaven with Him someday when we die. Remember the sacrament we talked about on Day 1? (Baptism) Today we learn about another wonderful Sacrament that Jesus gave us to help us stay plugged into the power source of His grace – His Divine life within us: The Sacrament of Reconciliation! In Baptism, Original Sin was washed away from us, and all personal sin, if we had any, if we were baptized later in life. That puts us in the state of sanctifying grace, of intimate friendship and closeness with Jesus. By our sins, the wrong choices we make, we can weaken or even separate ourselves from that close relationship with Jesus. But God gives us the Sacrament of Reconciliation to help us experience His forgiveness any time we need it. All we have to do is go to Reconciliation with hearts that are ready to change and do better, confess our sins, and trust in Jesus’ mercy; and our friendship with Him is instantly healed. We are plugged right back into the power source of His grace that lets us live forever! What an incredible gift! By staying close to the Jesus in the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation, we help to ensure that we are in a close relationship with Him so that someday when we die (probably when we are much older), we are ready to meet Jesus face to face, trusting that he will welcome us into eternal happiness in Heaven.
Do you know anyone who has died? Or has anyone in your family known someone who died?
It’s sad when someone we love or know dies. But the good news – the wonderful news – is that death isn’t the end! Jesus’ Power Lets Us Live Forever. (Trust Jesus!)
What does the word forever mean to you?
Because of Jesus, it’s possible for Isaac’s brother, Joel, and all who die as friends of Jesus to live with Him right now! And we can do the same someday! It’s okay to be sad when someone dies, but it’s so great that the sadness won’t last forever. But life with Jesus will last forever!
What do you think Heaven will be like?
Isaac said that in Heaven he’ll be able to give his brother a “grand old hug.” That’s the hope that we have in our hearts for Isaac, for Joel, and for all our loved ones who have died in whom we hope to see again some day. And that we’ll all know Jesus and praise and worship him together. How awesome! We are so thankful to know that Jesus’ Power Lets Us Live Forever! (Trust Jesus!)
Let us pray: (Remember to make the sign of the cross before and after our prayer!)
Dear Lord, thank you so much for your love and power! Thank you for making it possible for us to live with you forever. Thank you that we’ll get to hug our loved ones in Heaven and praise you together. We love you so much!
(Conclude by sharing a “grand old hug” with those with you.)
Day 4 Crunchy Crossbuck
Food Goal: Food that can make a “X” or cross shape
Ideas for crossbucks: anything about 2 inches long
Honey Wheat Pretzel Twists
Celery or carrot sticks
Cheese sticks cut in half
“Glue” to hold them together:
Canned or spreadable cheese
Make the crossbucks together.
Say: Our snacks look like train track signs called crossbucks that remind people to stop before crossing a track. But when we turn them another way…Turn the plates so the pretzels look more like crosses instead of X’s. Say: They look like crosses that remind us of Jesus and our special Bible verse for today, Romans 8:11, that says, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.” Jesus’ power lets us live forever!
Snack Chat Question: Who would you want with you on a long train ride?
Incredible! We are learning so much about the Jesus’ power today. We hope you are ready to start using your imagination now. We have a fun surprise in this station.
